Many churches choose a preset series of readings from which the readings for each Sunday come. The preset series is called a "lectionary" and typically follows a three-year cycle of Bible readings. Beginning in 2022, First Congregational will start using the Narrative Lectionary, a cycle of readings that traces the movement of the Bible from Genesis through the New Testament letters. The cycle spans the time in the church between September and June. The first section focuses on the Old Testament, the middle on the Gospels, and the final third on the New Testament Letters.
