While Bergen County is often considered to be affluent, hundreds of children are in danger – alone in the summer because their low income working parents can't afford tuition for day camp, where their children would be cared for while they have to work. Many such children are on long waiting lists for financial assistance that never comes. As a result, they end up spending an unproductive, unsupervised, dangerous summer at home ALONE.
First Congregational is a supporting sponsor of the Bergen County Campership Fund which provides assistance to low-income families so their children are able to attend a day camp while off for the summer months.
If you wnat to know more about the importance of this Fund you can read this great article from The Record here.
The Bergen County Campership Fund is part of the Bergen Volunteer Center which provides a broad range of support to low-income families.
Annual Pizza Fest
Thanks to support from the local businesses that donate pizza pies and softdrinks, Pizza Fest continues to be a big success.
An effort that requires approximately 30 volunteers who pitched in to help with everything from asking for donations from local pizzerias to cleaning up, we were able to raise $1,010 for the Bergen County Campership program!
